drop rates, leechers, how does it work??
Ive been farming raptors for a few weeks now and what i have noticed is that when i do it solo, i get crap drops all the time. However, i noticed that in a full party of leechers and 1 raptor farmer, he gets 3-4 gold drops EVERY run. why is that so???
also, ive heard that if you farm an area for too long the loot quality degrades over time. could someone explain this and tell me of any other drop factors?

Loot now scales with the number of party members you are playing in. So there are less drops with less people, but the drops don't have to be divided over multiple people. With more people come more drops and more dividing.
Loot quality degradation over time (the so called 'farm-code' which kicked in when you overfarmed an area) was in the game, but it has been replaced by the loot scaling, the first part of your question.

The only items exempt from this rule are:
* Skill Tomes
* Insight and Passage Scrolls
* Dyes
* Rare crafting materials
* All rare (gold) items
* All unique (green) items
* Special event items
Thus, the size of a farming party, with respect to loot, only affects the distribution of the exempt items.
So Gold drops arn't effected by Loot Scaling, so the same amount would drop regardless of party size.

I have heard the same things that you say lipgloss but in practice i don't find it to be true. Whenever I farm with a full party leaching points in the raptor farm I never leave without atleast 2 golds every run.
Solo I usually average about 4 golds every 5-7 runs. So in practice I find that golds are affected by loot scaling however dyes tomes and everything else does seem to follow what you said.

What would happen if you bring an entire party of 8. Leave the 7 behind (flag them away) and then go solo?
I have heard that when heroes and henchies are flagged away they do not get drops. I dont know if this is true or not, but i can clearly see that when i 600 with a smither i get double the amount of xp when he is far away from me as compared to when he is relatively close to me.

Then you cannot call it loot scaling, if you are ignoring what we've been told about it. Anet told us that Golds are excluded from loot scaling, so either loot scaling as a whole is wrong or this has nothing to do with loot scaling.

I am aware that this info is straight from Anet I'm only pointing out that what we have been told doesn't seem to hold up in practice. And well you must agree it wouldn't be the first time we were presented with information that turned out not to be entirely accurate.

Most don't charge in the raptor farm atleast. But honestly I feel that leachers should be charged for the free points they recieve regardless of wether they increase our drops or not. You are still recieving the benefits of our work.

although this actually used to work rather well it doesn't seem to any longer, well, that's simply what i've seen in my experiences, i believe this is because loot auto spawns in a heroes inventory when it comes to the drop division, so, I think they've made it to where this occurs regardless of the distance from the monster that is dying now.

So let me get this straight, if im in a full party with leechers, but they are out of my compass when i farm, i get the amount of drops a full party would get, and everyone else(the leechers) get nothing?

Yes, that is exactly how it works. Just go to Rata Sum, you'll see many of the HM Raptor Nestling farmers looking for leechers. The leechers get the asura blessing and stay outside of radar range of the solo'er killing the nestlings and the boss. This way, the solo'er gets the extra drops and the leechers get free asura rep. But apparently, this method only affects gold and common drops, gold items and tomes etc as mentioned above are excluded. That's why I usually go solo instead of waiting for leechers to join.

Gonna get my 5 cents worth now lol.
A lot of people always forget one prime equation when farming solo or team.
In thoery ( nothings ever been proven/disproven ) each zone when entered has x amount of enemy and each enemy has x chance to drop an item regardless of who it drops to.
Im sure we`ve all noticed if we go vanquishing we get maybe a full inv of items ... but if we go and kill say 30 enemy only per run ( raptors for eg ) we get less drops ..say 30 kills got u maybe 10 items - you only kill a fraction of foes for you have less chance of drops.
If you think im wrong .. another great example is those who solo smites and those who solo chaos planes ... solo smites is maybe 40 enemy in total you kill and chaos planes is maybe 200 enemy killed - you see my point.
End of day the more you kill on 1 zone per run you shud have more or even better drops and if your using the leech method then yes you may find you get more golds.
